Applications open October 5th!

Magnet applications for the 2027-2028 school year will open October 5, 2026,
and will close January 12, 2027.

Students are eligible to receive one or more preferences in the magnet lottery process. Preferences are only applied to a student’s first choice on-time application. A preference DOES NOT guarantee that an applicant will be selected in the lottery.

Feeder

The applicant is currently enrolled in a CCSD middle school magnet program.

Sibling

The applicant's sibling is currently enrolled in the applicant's school of choice AND will be returning to applicant's school of choice next year.

Geographic

The applicant resides within the magnet school's geographic preference area established by the CCSD Demographics & Zoning Department.

Transportation

Applicant resides within

the predetermined CTA transportation zone.

STEP 1

APPLY ONLINE

Complete an application by the specified deadline, choosing up to three magnet schools or programs that best match the student’s interests.

Check transportation eligibility.
Apply by the specified deadline.
Application changes are only permitted before the application deadline.
Review email confirmation of application submission.

STEP 2

SELECTION PROCESS

Following the application deadline, qualified applications are entered into the computerized, random lottery system to select applicants for available magnet seats.

STEP 3

AFTER THE LOTTERY

Once applications have been processed through the lottery, parents/guardians will receive notifications about the lottery results both online and through email.

While any student can apply, students wishing to receive transportation must reside within the transportation zone and live further than two miles from a school per CCSD Regulation 3531. Additional transportation eligibility information is available on the Transportation website.

It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to confirm transportation eligibility.

Students zoned for the following CCSD high schools receive transportation to WCTA: Bonanza HS, Clark HS, Palo Verde HS, Spring Valley HS, and Western HS

ENROLLMENT STANDARDS

The magnet school becomes a student’s assigned school once enrolled. Students are expected to remain enrolled in the program for the entire academic year.
Withdrawal from the magnet school is not permitted during the school year for the remainder of the time a student is enrolled in the program. A student can only be withdrawn at the end of the school year.
If a student-athlete returns to their zoned school or makes any other subsequent changes in enrollment, they would be ineligible for the remainder of that school year and for 180 school days in any sport as per NIAA (Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association). (Middle and High School only)

ATTENDANCE STANDARDS

Students must maintain good attendance while enrolled in a magnet program.
Students that earn 10 or more absences (excused or unexcused) within a semester, or eight on a block schedule, will be placed on attendance probation.
Students on probation who continue to accrue absences or tardies may be dismissed from the program at the end of the school year.

ACADEMIC STANDARDS

Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average (C average) each semester to remain in good standing.
Students who earn a D or F in coursework may be placed on probation as outlined by the school.
While the school will work with families to ensure the academic success of each student, the student will be required to meet the expectations of the program. A student coming in academically deficient in coursework related to the program to which they applied will be asked to participate in the following which may include, but not be limited to: additional activities, tutoring, and/or additional coursework so that they may be successful in the program.

BEHAVIOR STANDARDS

Students who receive a Required Parent Conference (RPC) or a suspension will be placed on probation.
Students who are referred for expulsion and/or are formally expelled may be dismissed from the magnet program.
